Customer and client care
Esthéthique is an ethical brand created by an Italian non-profit organization that operates in fair trade. Our e-commerce offers a selection of ethical design products, made by craftsmen who work with us in Madagascar.
These high quality products are created upon principles of fairness, respect and growth of the person. These principles push us to measure the social impact generated by fair trade and plan new interventions to support the growth of the traditional craftsmanship activities.
Since our purpose is not only that of working on the social-economic impact generated by the craftsmen and their communities, we would also like to establish a connection with our public to reflect about the collective development and the value of trading.
Our main objective is to foster the collective knowledge in perspective of raising the consumer’s awareness, as well of the producer’s, of what’s healthy and what makes for a healthy living. We use our blog ActFromTheSofa to create contents for our visitors who want to analyse in-depth subjects in our range of action: handicrafting production techniques, design, social impact, cooperations and development of the brand.
14 December ’87, the Ravinala cooperative is born in Italy with the purpose of introducing us the traditional handcrafted products of Madagascar and promoting fair trade.
November ’88, the first temporary shop is opened in Reggio Emilia for the Christmas season.
October ’89, the first shop is opened in Reggio Emilia’s old town.
It’s the year of the first project for the professional and business training of the craftsmen and the implementation of the trading activities in Madagascar. It is funded by MAE (the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs) for five years and developed in collaboration with the NGO Reggio Terzo Mondo.
It has several objectives; above all it intends to improve the quality of the products, but also foster the families’ education, raise the awareness on forest preservation and support women’s rights.
Ravinala begins offering its products, through wholesale, to the other Italian fair trade organizations.
Ravinala Sarl is born as a company under Malagasy law, under the ownership of the social cooperative Ravinala, with the purpose of supporting the craftsmen in the management of the orders, purchases and shipments of their products.
The project “Bio-Equo” (Organic&Fair) begins, funded by the European Union, with the objective of promoting fair trade and organic farming, spice plantations in particular, in many regions of Madagascar.
The best result obtained by the project was the creation of a national network of the fair trade producers in Madagascar, which is currently called ANCESM. Madagascar was the first African country to have a protocol recognized at a ministerial level for fair trade.
The existing store is closed in order to open a new one completely revised in the central square of Reggio Emilia, which was then transferred in ’16 to double the exhibition space.
28 February ’15, following the damages done by the cyclone, Ravinala started a fundraising campaign that raised enough money to ensure the reconstruction of 30 damaged homes and the construction of 10 new homes for the craftsmen who had completely lost them.
For its 30th anniversary, Ravinala launched the brand “esthéthique“ with the purpose of offering a line of ethical products of design and handicraft.
